To most people when the term Wildcats is brought up they envision a brood of rowdy alley-cats or mangy farm pets. But in Lexington, Kentucky the term Wildcats is one used to describe with reverence the University of Kentucky NCAA Division-I football program. The Kentucky Wildcats play in the Southeastern Conference in the Eastern Division.
Currently led by Kentucky Wildcats Head Coach Rich Brooks, The Wildcats have come back from what some sports fans would call a slump. Playing in the 2007 Music City Bowl, the Kentucky Wildcats beat Florida State 35-28 and in the 2009 Liberty Bowl the UK Wildcats came out on top again, winning 25-18 against East Carolina. Although his record since being a part of the Kentucky Wildcat roster has not been a winning won, some sports analysts would say that Coach Brooks is helping the University of Kentucky rebuild their once strong football program.
One note that is an encouraging marker of a team on the mend, is that to date there are currently Kentucky Wildcat roster members playing in the NFL. There was also a former Wildcat who was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1981. With football greats coming out of the University of Kentucky fans can be hopeful that the Wildcats will begin to see the success that fans know they are capable of.
