The University of Mississippi is represented in NCAA Division-I sports by the Ole Miss Rebels. Ole Miss Rebels sports teams all play in the Southeastern Conference which is made up of 12 schools.

Students at Ole Miss are very spirited about their sports teams, often dressing head to toe in the University of Mississippi school colors: Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue for game days, rebels jerseys are also a common sight on campus before big football and basketball games. The Ole Miss mascot, Colonel Reb can always be counted on to appear at games and often helps pump up the crowd with the University of Mississippi fight song, "Forward Rebels". Other fan traditions include a famous cheer taught to freshman called, "Hotty, Toddy".
Like any large public university, Ole Miss has several rivals the most fierce including the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the LSU Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. In football, the Mississippi Rebels meet the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the end of each season for the Egg Bowl. In the Egg Bowl UM and MSU face off for the Golden Egg Trophy, Ole Miss leads the rivalry 60-39-6. There are also important games played against MSU in baseball and men's basketball, together the games are known as the "Big 3" and are fan favorites every year.
