(George) Barney Poole was an Ole Miss Alum and American football end in the National Football League. Poole died at age 81 in his hometown of Gloster, Mississippi. Barney Poole made his mark on the NFL during his career, playing on teams such as the New York Yankees, Dallas Texans, Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants.

As a football player for the Ole Miss Rebels at the University of Mississippi, Barney Poole was proud to play defensive and defensive end for a university in his home state. In 1974, Barney Poole was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
