Tyrone Nix is the defensive coordinator for the Ole Miss Rebels. Tyrone graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi where he was a linebacker from 1990 to 1993, he was named captain of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in 1993. After graduation Tyrone Nix joined the coaching staff at his alma matter where he served as an assistant coach for ten years. Spending time coaching all of the defensive positions, Coach Nix really helped to shape the defense of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. In the 2002 season , the USM Golden Eagles defense was ranked 4th nationally in pass efficiency defense and in the 2003 season, under the guidance of Tyrone Nix, the Golden Eagles were ranked 5th in the nation for pass defense. Coach Nix spent the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons as the defensive coordinator for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

On December 11, 2007 Tyrone Nix accepted the job as defensive coordinator from Ole Miss Rebels Head Coach Houston Nutt. Coach Nutt was quoted as saying, “Tyrone Nix is one of the up-and-coming, bright defensive coordinators in America”. Ole Miss Rebels fans hope that Tyrone Nix will continue to bring this bright up-and-coming innovation to the Rebels football program as he begins to shape the defensive players on the Ole Miss Rebels football roster.
